One of the things I love about Ravelry is that I can see all the projects people have made using my designs. I really love to see how people tweak the designs to better fit their own needs. Maybe this gets on the nerves of some designers, but for me, it’s super exciting. Also, it’s exactly what I do when knitting from a pattern – I don’t know that I’ve EVER followed a pattern exactly as it is written, unless I’m test knitting for another designer. Otherwise, I make changes – some small, some big. And I love that other knitters do the same.
My Eldfell design is my most popular right now, and I love to browse all the projects to see how knitters play with color combinations, even change the yoke design, to make it their own.
Now my latest Knit Picks design, the Lindisfarne Poncho, is getting some customization as well. One fellow Raveller contacted me to let me know that she didn’t love the collar as shown in the Knit Picks version of my design, so she picked up stitches and created a simple crew neck collar instead. I love it! I have to admit, I much prefer the buttoned version of the collar to the buttonless version featured by Knit Picks, but BammerKT‘s crew neck is more open and three-season-friendly, a great third option!
BammerKT is an expert cable knitter and vlogger (her knitting vlog features her knitting, weaving, AND her adorable pooches!), and I was so thrilled that she featured her modified version of the Lindisfarne in a Youtube video.
In a follow-up video, she describes her extremely speedy method of cable knitting without a cable needle, which has inspired me to give this method another try.
I’ll definitely be following her Youtube channel, Fiber Love Diary, and thank you, BammerKT, for featuring the Lindisfarne!
